This week it was reported that one of the most celebrated couples in Tinseltown is calling it quits after seven years of marriage. British musician Seal and German supermodel Heidi Klum announced their separation on Sunday, after what the couple called "much soul-searching."

Many people were surprised to hear the news as the couple has been known for showing public displays of affection and raving about each other in interviews.

However, USA Today reported that couples who are overly affectionate in public are sometimes just trying to prove to "themselves [and] the rest of the world that everything is fine."

Divorce is out of the question for some couples, typically because of religious reasons. Other couples may want to remain married but don't want to live together or share finances anymore. Others yet want a "trial separation" to experience what divorce would be like. This is where legal separation comes in.

But did you know that there is no such thing as legal separation in New Jersey? The state recognizes a somewhat old-fashioned alterative to divorce called divorce from bed and board, which people sometimes use. However, it is not very common.

The New Jersey mother and wife wakes alone every morning. Even on holidays such as Valentine's Day and Mother's Day.

"Mother's Day really upset me," the 47-year-old recently confessed to the Wall Street Journal. But she's used to waking alone; she's married to a banking executive who exercises early every single morning, perhaps obsessively. This coming Mother's Day he'll be in Utah participating in a triathlon.

Perhaps not surprisingly, conflicts over exercise are increasingly driving married couples contemplating separation or divorce into the offices of counselors.
